JROTC/ROTC Medal Program

In 1967, PDC Donald Fournier, then Senior Vice Commander of the AMVETS Department of Illinois, designed the medal we still use today. It
started the AMVETS ROTC Awards Program, and was then authorized by the Department of Defense, Heraldry Section, for ROTC cadets to wear our
AMVETS medal or ribbon on the uniform. The program includes all Illinois public and private high schools,Universities, Colleges and ROTC units
on the US Bases in Germany, Puerto Rico and Guam. This program was later adopted by the National AMVETS.
